Waiting on the NBA

November 17, 2011 4:26 pm

What a shame it is....the Dallas Mavericks after so many years finally won the NBA Finals...and now the lockout has taken away from the one thing every fan waits for...the raising of the NBA Championship banner.  I guess it could be worse...like seeing the Heat raise one.....NOT!

The extra time off and potentially shorter season might favor the Mavs to a return shot at the finals.  Our club is a little on the old side, so a shorter season might make it just a little easier....note I said "might".  Jason Kidd sure must like it.  I'm sure Dirk Nowitzki is loving it...and Caron Butler will be no doubt at 100% and chomping at the bit.

I think Kevin Durant will guide the Thunder to another dep run if/when the season starts.  If only he had stayed at UT a bit longer.....oh the what ifs!

Wonder what Tony Parker is doing right now?  Not this....

What a putz!  LOL-LOL-LOL

Column: Mavs avenge past

July 1, 2011 4:06 pm

DALLAS: Now that Dirk Nowitzki has a Championship ring, that is if Mark Cuban actually gets them a ring. But you get what I'm saying he has what he didn't have for 12 years. Finally, in his 13th season, he wins one and the good thing is this: Dirk still has a few more good years in him.
-------------
Funny how it ended up, the guy staying with his team that could of gone to a different team, his team won the Championship.
But LeBron wasn't going to roll the dice on Cleveland. Who probably wasn't much better than the Mavs when James was in C-Town.
You can't blame LeBron for leaving Cleveland to go a tem that had a super-star. LeBron wanted to do it the easy way, Dirk knew he was taking a risk staying in Big D, but it paied off. He wins his first NBA championship. And the best part about it is: No one can take it away, it all ready happened.
Miami had their chances, but when they needed someone to step his game up a notch, he couldn't do it he failed to in these Finals. Yes, I'm talking about LeBron James.
------------------
But that wasn't the case at all for the Dallas Mavericks star forward Dirk Nowtzki who if anything, just flat out dominated the entire playoffs, yes and the NBA Finals. Forget about how bad Dirk Nowitzki may of shot the ball in Game 6, the Mavericks still won. They proved that they can win at the biggest stage without Dirk carrying them on their backs. Thanks to Jason Terry who had 19 1rst half points on 8-10 shooting. While Dirk was just a lack-luster 1-12 from the field going into halftime. -------------------------- 1 game out out of the way Dirk dominated in basically, every other playoff game shouldn't be able to dictate his overall Finals or even Playoffs performance.

Sure, Nowtitzki led this team the whole way the entire playoofs but this team also had other guys that stepped their game on this team as well.
This time, Dirk wasn't alone. In the NBA Finals, Dirk Nowitzki wasn't alone. He had J-E-T (Jason Terry), Jason Kidd, J.J Barea, DeShawn Stevenson, and of course, Tyson Chandler
Yeah, the Heat had the "Big 3" that was supposed to help them win it all, but their big 3 just got outplayed by the Mavericks as a team in the series.
Not that Dirk wasn't dominanting at times in these Finals, but the Mavericks knew that the #1 key to winning the NBA Finals, especially against this team that couldn't be stopped with only one player from the other team. Dallas won this series because, Dirk knew that the chances of coming back to the Finals don't look to good. The Mavericks won this series because, Jason Kidd didn't want 17 years all for nothing but a few records he holds. But in the grand scheme of things: records like those, they don't really matter. All the Mavericks wanted was to bring a Championship trophy back to the city of Dallas, and to stop the Evil empire NBA basketball team Miami Heat from winning itall the easy way.
----------------------
Dallas stopped Pat Riley from showing 3 to the crowd in Miami in a possible game 7, or they stopped them from bringing back almost exact memories of the 2006 NBA Finals, we're they could of ended up winnnig it all in Dallas, all over again.
But guese what, that didn't happen this time.
This time was Dirk Nowitzki's time, and the Mavericks time.
They knew that time was running out on them. And that they wouldn't make it back for a while.
Now, well, we don't have to look at the Dirk era as "what could of been".
Even if Dallas doesn't win another NBA Championship while Dirk's at his best and still with Dallas, or if they don't re-peat, at least a single Championship trophy is all this team wants, well, they would like to do it again, but winning one is good enough right?
Maybe not.

Good Start

November 19, 2009 2:25 pm

The Mavs are currently 2nd in the Western Conference and are playing well. They are without Josh Howard and Shawn Marion but they are still playing well. This team looks like they could be on their way to the Western Conference Finals and possibly further. This team looks very good and once they get Howard and Marion back they will become dominant. They play of rookie Roddy BoBo has been very encouraging for the future and now. He is productive in all of his minutes and is getting better every game. This team is very good and they actually have some post play this year. Dampier is having his best season and Drew Gooden and Kris Humphries inside provide a solid frontcourt. Dirk looks as good as ever and he has added another dimension to his game as he is actually attacking the basket some and playing with his back to the basket. I think this team could possibly get a championship this year if they get hot for the playoffs. This team certainly has the talent and the depth to compete with any team in the league. The only problems could be the Lakers and the Nuggets. Both teams gave the Mavs problems last season but this year it looks to be a different story. They won in LA earlier this season and the addition of Marion will help against Denver. This could be the best Dallas team since the 2005-06 team that collapsed in the Finals.
